The maps compare how the town of Poulton changed in 1900 and 1935.
Overall, it can be seen that there were significant developments in the second map. This town was converted industrial area into residential neighborhood.
In 1900, this town was surrounded by industrial areas, including a factory and wasteland in the north, as well as a wasteland and railway worker’s cottages in the south. However, by 1935, this area in the south had been modernized with new amenities such as Bayley Street Park and a children’s play area. Additionally, it was demolished to make way for Bayley mansions in the north. In the middle of the city, townhouses were part of the mansions in 1935. The old shop which was situated next to the townhouses, was relocated to the southeast of the town and led to an expansion of three shops. Moreover, a laundry and a cafe were also moved to the side of the mansions.
To the west of Bayley Street, there were terraced houses in 1900 but it was constructed to two flats by 1935. Trent Street was unchanged and extended to connect Bayley Street, and a new road named New Lane was built to the east of the park.
