The maps illustrate how an art gallery in Australia has changed from 1950 to the present day. Overall, Art gallery’s layout has experienced a significant transformation during the whole period becoming more informative due to addition of new art sectors and comfortable with the constraction of new social facilities. Of particular note is that many sections remained untouched.
In 1950, the art gallery had a simple layout. The central part of the gallery was occupied by sculpture exhibition, while courtyard dominated the north side of the gallery. There are three main section in the right side of the sculpture exhibition – Early European Art, Middle European Art, and Australia Art. A bookshop could be found immideately in the left hand side from entrance, while temprory exhibition and cafe was located to the north of the bookshop.
By the present days, there have been noticeable changes in the galery’s design. One of the main changes is the removal of the courtyard to make rooms for children art school and Australia Aboriginal Art. The Australia Art section has been removed to the northeast part of the gallery, a new Asian Art sector was installed while on the southeast side. The last change is a toilet next to the cafe in the southwest side of the gallery.
