The given maps illustrate how the Pentland coastal town changed during the period from 1950 to 2007.
Overall, the region shifted from a predominantly rural to urbanised area. The keys changes were the development of new amenities, the establishment of a yacht marina and the demolition of the industrial area.
In 1950, the southwest and the southeast sections were mainly occupied by grassland, with roads running through the middle of the town, while there were a sea area in the north. A car park was featured in the east side and the industrial area was located on the opposite corner.
By 2007, the Pentland coastal town had undergone significant modernizations. The grassland in the southwest and southeast corners of the map had been completely removed to make way for introducing a cinema and two lines of houses, respectively. Additionally, the establishment of apartments and a lot of shopping areas had been erected by demolishing a car park in the east section. The sea area was destroyed in order to construct a new yacht marina, while in the west side, the industrial area had been knocked down to make room for a multi-story car park and a swimming pool.
