The two maps show the layout of Shalton village in two years 1910 and 2010.Overall,village used to be very green especially the heart of it, but after a century it became more residential area with construction of many new houses.
The village was connected with three main roads namely: School Road, London Road and High Street, making the triangular shape. On the side of the School Road there were school, butcher and house at the end, while the London Road included only a Post office. As for the High street there were also houses on either side of the road. At the heart of the village there was a green area with many tree surrounding the large house, grocer and baker have also placed there .
After a century, village has seen many alterations both inside and outside of central area. On the outer side of the High Street and London Road blocks of houses were introduced in 2010.The house on the intersection of School and London Road had been converted to a new bank. On the west of the School Road, the old Butcher had been demolished to make a way for Supermarket with parking facilities . Interestingly, School and Post office remained unchanged after 100 years.
At the heart, all of the greenery of the area and the large house had been lost to make space for the new houses with the access to from a small path to the London Road.The grocer was replaced by a new small café, while the Baker was also transformed into the living apartment.
