The two maps illustrate the modification of Shalton village from 1910 to 2010.
Overall, the town recorded a significant reduction of botanical section to accommodate residential areas. Additionally, new amenities were implemented in order to fulfill the basic demands of dwellers.
Regarding the 1910 layout, in the center of Shalton village used to be an expansive garden which covered a large house in the middle. To the south of the botanical area, there were a grocery shop, a house and a baker lay from west to east, which were opposite to two other living areas, divided by the High Street. Furthermore, the west side of the School Road contained a house, a butcher and a school, lay from north to south-west, respectively. In addition, a post office was constructed in the north-east corner where School Road and London Road intersected.
Turning to the 2010 map, the village was experiencing a noticeable transformation over a century. The garden as well as the large house were knocked down to make room for a new residential section, which were bisected by a small road that was a branch of the London Road. A repurposing project could be observed in the grocer and bakery, which were replaced by a new cafe and housing section. Furthermore, the construction of a range of new residential area was conducted to the east of London Road. In addition, the butcher shop was entirely replaced by newly constructed supermarket which included a parking space, connected with the School Road by a small road.
