The diagrams depict how a city center has been changed since 2000. Overall, it is apparent that Nelson city has experienced major change including adding modern financial and entertaining facilities such as shopping centre, restaurant, bars and clubs, and hall of residence. Additionally, many new areas were built to foster environmental quality.
Regarding the city in 2000, there was a significant lack manufactures. Looking at northern and northeast region, there was a university that was the main educational facility for citizens and the forest, respectively. Moreover, the main public transport in this period was train that the station locating at western site. On the northern of the city, there were some conventional markets for trading adjacent to city centre and above the main street. At the bottom of city, there was harbour.
After having a remarkable number of changes and modernization, Nelson has been more convenient. The educational building still remains, whereas the station is moved into the center of city. Moreover, there are two new buildings on the northwest and northeast corners is hall of residence and new shopping centre, respectively. While the old market is modernized to attract consumers, and there is also a new covered market on the opposite site. In addition, the place for cycling and the new pedestrian way are added in city centre for health improvement. Finally, two facilities in the bottom still remain, and there is a new place for entertaining called bars and clubs on the southeast site.
