Overall, the percentages of people living in cities of both people born in Australia or people born outside stayed dominant through the whole time frame, while the figures for other locations decreased.
On the one hand, the upward trend can be observed in the number of people living in cities. Australia-born witnessed the increase in the proportion of people from around 50% to approximately 67% between 1995 and 2010. Following the same pattern, the proportion of foreign-born surged exponentially from 60% to 80%.
On the other hand, the percentage of the people living in town and rural areas decreased to different extents or remained stable. In 1995, the figures for people born in Australia who chose to live in town and rural areas dropped from 20% to 19% and around 30% to 19% between these years, respectively. While the proportion of people born outside Australia who live in town remained intact at 10%, the proportion for those who live in rural areas witnessed a remarkable decrease from 40% to 5% after fifteen years.
