While the pie chart demonstrates the proportion of sexes arrested in the 5 years ending 1994, the bar graph illustrates the reasons for arrest.
Overall, males were arrested more frequently than females from 1989 to 1994. The percentage of arrests for reasons such as drink driving and public drinking was the highest among men, while only public drinking was more common among women.
Regarding the percentage of prisoners, the majority of those arrested were males rather than females over the 5 years period. For instance, the percentage of arrested men accounted for about one-third of all arrests, whereas women comprised just 9 percent in total.
The proportion of arrest reasons was quite similar between both sexes. For example, the percentage of arrest for public drinking was approximately 31 and 37 percent for men and women respectively. In contrast, reason like no answer was chosen by both females and males at the fewer percentage. Other reasons such as breach of order, assault, theft and other reasons had almost the same rates for both sexes, ranging approximately 13 percent to 19 percent in 1994.
