The line graph provides a breakdown of the use of renewable energy accounting the total energy from 1971 to 2011.It is clear that Denmark,France,Germany , United states and United Kingdom followed an upward trajectory, whereas Finland witnessed a decline over forty years.
Looking at the highest-ranking nations, Finland started the period with a significant lead at approximately 24%. Although its figures fluctuated notably – dropping to a low of 16% in 1986 – it recovered to finish at nearly 23% in 2011. The United Kingdom followed a unique trajectory; its renewable energy share remained negligible (under 5%) for the first twenty years, but then climbed steeply after 1991, eventually overtaking most other nations to reach 18% by the end of the study.
In terms of the remaining countries, Denmark and France followed relatively similar patterns. Denmark’s usage began at 15% and, despite some volatility, ended slightly higher at 17%. Germany showed a steady and consistent increase from 8% in 1971 to 14% in 2011. In stark contrast, the United States started as the least reliant on renewables at roughly 3% and grew only marginally over the forty-year period, reaching just 6% by the final year.
