It is clear that people in the UK spent a lot of money for their entertainment, while food and drink category had the highest propotion of household spending in New Zealand. It is also noticeable that money spent on utility bills increased in both countries between 1980 and 2008.
In 1980, the UK households spent 27% of their salaries on leisure activities, whereas this figure was only 18% in New Zealand. Food and drink was responsible the highest percentage of households expenditures in New Zealand, with 29% of the totall spending on this category. This figure was 6% higher than that of Britons.
Household spending in transport system and other category was about equal in both countries in both years. Utility bills were responsible for 27% of families spending in New Zealand, slightly higher than that in the UK. This figure rose by 4% in 2008, accounting for the largest share of a household expenditure in New Zealand.
