It is clear that, in the UK, the largest portion of household spending is on leisure in both years. But in New Zealand, the biggest category in 1980 was food & drink, the biggest in 2008 was utility bills.
Looking at the details, the most significant change in the UK in these two years is food & drink, which increased from 13% to 23% for 28 years. Other categories except transport had minor growth ; For example,leisure spending increased by 7%, and utility bills increased by 2%.
In New Zealand, only figures of “utility bills” and “other” showed an increase from 27% to 31%, while other categories slightly declined between these two years . For instance, both transport and leisure decreased by 1% .Significantly, food and drink showed a minor decrease, from 29% to 25%.
