The pie charts illustrate the percentages of class sizes in primary schools in four different states in Australia in 2010.
Overall, it is clear that in all the schools in Australia, the highest percentage was for classes with 26-30 students, while classes with 20 students or fewer were a moderate exception in the Australian Capital Territory. Classes with 30 students or more were few in number in all the primary schools.
With regard to classes with 21-25 students, the Australian Capital Territory had the largest percentage, at 51%. Meanwhile, the other schools had a third or more than a third of their overall student population in this category. Surprisingly, the percentages for classes with 20 students or fewer were the same in New South Wales and Western Australia; however, the Australian Capital Territory had 38%, with less than 2% of South Australia’s classes in this category.
Classes with 26-30 students made up nearly one-third of the classes in all schools except for the Australian Capital Territory, which had only 10%. Classes with 30 students or more had the lowest percentages in all primary schools of Australia, especially in the Australian Capital Territory. New South Wales and South Australia had 4% of their classes in this category, while Western Australia had 5%, and the Australian Capital Territory had merely 1%.
