The pie charts illustrates the percentage of energy generation by different types of fuels in the UK in two separate years: 2014 and 2018.
Overall, the proportion of gas generation was the highest, while that of oil and other fuels was the lowest figure throughout the period. In addition, the figure for nuclear and coal power experienced a slight drop; by contrast, renewable energy increased considerably over the years.
In 2014, the production of energy generated from renewables and nuclear stood at 15% and 22.5%, respectively. Moreover, the level of gas generation was the highest in this year, at about 30.1%, followed by coal power, which accounted for 28.4%. Oil and other sources was 4%, making it the lowest figure.
By 2018, the shares of nuclear and gas power declined gradually, reaching 21.6% and 18.1% respectively, while that of renewables saw a dramatic growth of 11.2%. As for the remaining fuels, the share of gas and that of oil and other fuels remained stable between 2014 and 2018, at 30.1% and 4% respectively.
