Overall, English was the most used language in both years. However it decreased its dominance, whilst Urdu and Chinese shares grew.
In terms of the most significant feature of the chart, the most popular language was English, accounting for 70% in 1980. However, in the next decade (1990) it declined by 15% and made up 55%, still remaining the biggest. In contrast, the part of the Other languages continued to be the smallest and had the same share of 6% during the analysed periods.
The remaining two languages, the second and the third-highest, were Urdu and Chinese, respectively. Urdu saw a notable growth in popularity, almost doubling from 15% in 1980 to 28% in 1990. Whilst Chinese increased less drastically by ⅓ (from 9% to 11%) staying at the 3rd position.
