Overall, swimming was the most well-liked sport in all the given years. While basketball overtook the the category termed other to become the second most preferred sport in the final year. Football and tennis were the lest most preferred sports at the end of the period.

In 1990, 39% of Frenc secondary school students preferred swimming swimming over other sports and this figure increased to almost a half in 2000. By 2010, even though there was a reduction in the percentage to 41%, swimming was still the most preferred sport in secondary schools. There was a consistent decline in the proportion the category other from a quarter in 1990 to 19% in 2000, whereas the percentage of students who chose basketball as their favorite sport grew from 16% in 2010.

As for football, there was an increase in the number of students that preferred it from 16% in 1990 to 18% in 2000, but by 2010, this figure had fallen to just under a tenth. Finally, less then 10% of students preferred tennis in all three years.
