The three pie charts compare the types of sports which were the most popular in French secondary schools in 1990, 2000 and 2010.
Overall, the swimming was most preferred sport in all years, while the tennis players had the lowest rate. The proportion of basketball and football players saw fluctuation; however, other sports decreased over time.
The percentage of swimming, accounting for the highest amount of all, rose by 9% in a decade and reached 48% before falling to 41% in 2010. Meanwhile, tennis was never very popular, with less than 10% of students, in a period of 20 years.
The proportion of basketball players dropped by 9% and stood at 7%, which was followed by an abrupt surge to 25%. By contrast, the rate of football accounted at 8% in 2010, after a considerable fall from 18%.
Furthermore, other kinds of sports which had the second largest amount in 1990, steadily fell from 25% and levelled off at 19% in two decades.
