Overall, housing accounted for the largest propotion of expenditure in Malasia, whereas oyer goods and services represented the biggest share in Japan. In addition, healthcare was the smallest category in both countries.
In Malaysia, housing made up the highest proportion, at 34%. Food was the second largest category, accounting for 27%, followed by other goods and services at 26%. In contrast, transport and healthcare were significantly lower, at 10% and 3% respectively.
In Japan, other goods and services constituted the largest share at 29%. Food expenditure was also considrable, at 24%, while housing accounted for 21%. Transport represented 20% of total spending, whereas healthcare was the smallest category, at just 6%.
