The charts illustrate the proportion of students enrolled in four types of courses (face-to-face, correspondence, mixed media, and online) in the years 1984, 1994, and 2004.
Overall, it is clear that face-to-face courses always held the dominant position, even though their popularity declined over the years. In contrast, online courses were the least attended. Meanwhile, mixed media courses experienced a significant increase.
In 1984, face-to-face courses dominated with 67%, and they were a popular option for most people. Correspondence courses were preferred by 20% of students, while mixed media courses were chosen by the fewest people. However, online courses were not available at this time.
In 1994, online courses were introduced to students; therefore, face-to-face courses dropped slightly, to 54%; however, they were still the most popular option. Furthermore, mixed media courses had increased slightly to 15%, while correspondence courses had not changed.
In 2004, face-to-face courses dropped significantly, even though they were still dominant. While online and correspondence courses decreased to 10% and 15%, respectively, mixed media courses had substantial growth, reaching 35%.
