The two pie charts illustrate the primary factors influencing students’ decisions when selecting a university in the UK in 2010 and 2020.
Overall, while academic reputation remained the most significant consideration in both years, its dominance subsequently declined. In contrast, the importance of university location and facilities saw a noticeable upward trend over the decade.
In 2010, Academic Reputation was the leading factor at 35%, but this figure dropped to 30% by 2020. Similarly, Course Availability experienced a five-percent decrease, falling from a quarter of the total to 20%.
Conversely, Location became increasingly vital, rising from 20% to 25% to become the second most influential factor in 2020. Facilities also grew in significance, climbing from 10% to 15%. Interestingly, concerns regarding Tuition Fees and the remaining “Other” categories (unlabeled in 2010 but consistent at 10%) remained entirely static throughout the ten-year period.
