The chart illustrates a comparison between world’s forests and timber across different regions in 2010.
Overall,the highest percentage of forests was located in South America, while timber accounted for the biggest share in Russia. The least percentage of both timber and forests was in Europe.
The biggest number of forests were located in South America, representing 26,5 percent; however, the percentage of timber was 10 percent lower there. The share of North America’s forests was also bigger than its share in timber, comprising 21,9 percent, which was 10 percent higher than timber. South Africa’s forests compared to timber accounted for the bigger percentage, 13,2 percent. The lowest percentage of forests represented Europe, only 5 percent.
Russia, on the contrary, had the highest percentage of timber, 37,5 percent, which is almost 13% more than forests. Asia/Oceania as well as Europe comprised the biggest share of timber. Asia/Oceania’s percentage of timber was roughly 5 percent higher than forests, 24,3 percent. Europe still accounted for the lowest share, but this was nearly 4 percent higher than the share of forests, 9,2 percent.
