The given map compares the plan for reconstruction of the second floor of Mason’s Building between 2001 and 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the building area has undergone a radical transformation through the years. By contrast, it is interesting to note that, although the librarian’s office remains constant, the whole building space has been reconstructed andredesigned.
It is clear that, at the top of the layout, the Fiction book zone was replaced by the Children’s books, which has expanded to become the largest zone, adjacent to the new play zone for children. Besides, the history collection, which was divided into three new categories: Law, Economics, and Kitchen, wasreduced and removed to the bottom left corner of the room. In addition, the size of the self-help books wasalso decreased and placed in the center of the collections, next tothe kitchen and fiction albums.
At the center of the floor, there were four long tables which were merged with eight separate, small tables, making more spaces for students to study in the library. On the right-hand side, the traditional newspaper and periodicals were replaced with afilms and DVDs section, located right next to the newly added computer facilities. Lastly, toward the bottom of the room, the librarian’s desk, stairs, and entrance gate remained unchanged between 2001 and 2009.
