The maps illustrate the development of the ground floor of a library from 2001 to 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the library’s ground floor experienced significant transformations, with the most noticeable being the expansion of a variety of book genres as well as the addition of technology amenities.
As can be seen from the left-hand side of the two maps, the spaces for self help and history were transformed into a row of smaller sections, including the initial sections and the addition of fiction, kitchen, economic and law books, while the librarian’s desk opposite the entrance still remained unchanged. Similarly, the stairs at the bottom right corner continued to occupy the same location as previously.
Regarding the top of the two maps, the fiction area was demolished and replaced by children’s books. Likely, to the right of the ground floor, the space for newspapers and periodicals was knocked down to make way for the film and DVDs section, adjacent to the establishment of a new computer area. Another notable change was the replacement of eight original tables with four longer tables in the center of the library’s ground floor.
