The maps illustrate the transformation of the ground floor of a particular museum from 1990 to 2010. Overall, the most significant alteration is the addition of children’s interactive zone and poster display area at the expense of the archaeology gallery. It is also evident that the natural history room, museum office and stairs experienced no change.
Turning to the details in question, by 2010, the gift shop in the top left corner of the map had increased in size for the addition of a café to it while the stairs, natural history room and museum office remained intact. The statue located between the gift shop and the stairs had been moved to the middle of the ground floor. Another feature is that the reception counter right next to the museum office was relocated to near the main entrance. Besides, a new lift was built between the gift shop and natural history room.
On the other side of the entrance, the archaeology gallery located opposite the gift shop had been divided into two equal parts. The top right corner part had been turned into a children’s interactive zone and the remaining part became a poster display area. In addition, in 1990, the local history room located on the right of the entrance had two entrance doors including the main door and the internal door leading to the archaeology, but it then became a public room which did not have any doors. Moreover, the entrance was also extended significantly, becoming twice as wide as before to welcome more visitors getting in the museum.
