In terms of cars, trains, and taxis, while the distance traveled by cars grew to the highest during the period, taxis’ traveling distance rose at the most striking rate. In 1977, adults used cars to travel 3500 miles while in 2007, the distance that they went on cars was 7100 miles, doubling the initial year. Although cars remained the most preferred mode of transportation, when it came to growth rate, cars second only to taxis, which saw a four-time leap from 200 miles in 1997 to 800 miles in 2007. Besides, trains recorded only a 100-mile increase in their traveling distance, standing at 1000 in 2007.
Regarding the other transit vehicles, buses were used to traveled further than others, with 800 and 500 miles accordingly. Other transits witnessed a smaller decrease in their traveling distance. Walking dropped from 400 to 300 miles, while bicycles and motorcycles, in turn, traveled 100 miles in 1977, registering a minimal decline in the following 30 years, to 80 and 90 respectively.
