The table provides information about the employment sectors in which people from three different age groups worked.
Overall, it is clear that employment patterns varied significantly by age. Younger people were more likely to work in retail and other sectors, whereas older age groups were more represented in manufacturing and local government. In contrast, employment in law and accountancy remained relatively low across all age groups.
Looking first at people aged 18-25, the highest proportions were recorded in retail and other sectors, at 23% and 21% respectively. Manufacturing and health also accounted for notable shares, both at 12%. By comparison, only small percentages of this age group worked in law (4%) and accountancy (3%).
Among those aged 25-40, manufacturing and health were the most common employment sectors, each representing 15%. Education and local government also employed a considerable proportion of people, at 12% each. Retail, however, saw a sharp decline to just 7%. For the oldest group (40-65), manufacturing became the dominant sector at 23%, followed by local government at 18%, while retail and catering were among the least popular.
