The image illustrates the profession patterns for both sexes in New Zealand between 1993 and 2003.
Overall, it is clear that in most of the fields the larger numbers of workers were men. However, during the given period, an upward trend was recorded among women percentage figures. In contrast, such categories as services and commerce experienced opposite changes.
In 1993 men’s proportion rates in 3 areas were higer that 68%, except commerce and services, where percentages were 45 and 14 respectively. Therefore females’ proportion rates were much lower; the smallest percentages were in the information technology, farming and building, which were 20, 25 and 32 respectively. The only profession field where men and women figures were almost equal was manufacturing – 55% and 45%.
Over decade proportions changed. In spite of percentages decline, in 4 profession areas men population was still predominant, except the service and commerce, the only areas where male’s rates increased, their datas, nevertheless, were lower or at the same level as women’s. The women proportion datas rose; the information technology, farming and building fields figures increased to 30%, 35% and 40% respectively. In the service proportion was 40% of males to 60% of females. However, the only one area which ended up with the equal proportion is the commerce; in 2003 precentages were 50 to 50.
