The table provides information about the number of passengers (in millions) utilizing five modes of public transport (trains, buses, trams, taxis, and metro) in Milan from 2010 to 2014.
Overall, the general trend was for all types of public conveyance to increase within the timeframe. Furthermore, the Metro emerged as the most preferred mode of transportation among citizens, whereas taxis had the fewest number of passengers throughout the four-year period.
Initially, we can see a significant increase in train usage, with the number of users rising from 1.4 to 3.6 at the end of the period. Likewise, the Metro took second place, with the number of citizens using modes of public transport slightly lower than the Metro, starting from 3.0 in the initial period to 5.0.
Compared to the other public transport, the number of bus and tram passengers presented a similar trend, nearly doubling to 2.4 and 2.2, respectively. The data also revealed a slight dip in the number of bus users in 2011, before rising back in 2012 when surpassed by tram users. Lastly, the number of taxi users consistently increased, starting from 0.6 in 2010 and increasing by 0.1 each year until it reached 1.0 at the end.
