The table illustrates the most significant information about the average scores of the IELTS General Test obtained by students of various language groups in 2010.
The overall band score of a student who took the German exam was the highest among all. German candidates performed excellently in three sections: listening, writing, and speaking, except reading. Although an Indonesian candidate achieved the lowest total score, listening, writing, and reading marks were more favourable than a Malay learner’s.
Turning to the details, listening and reading scores accomplished by French and Indonesian students were equal—6.3 and 6.1. Similarly, the speaking results of French and Malayan learners were identical (6.6). The subsequent observation was made in the German IELTS rate, demonstrating the dominant place in the table. Specifically, a candidate attained 6.8 in listening, 6.3 in reading, 6.6 in writing, and 6.9 in speaking, finally making 6.7 altogether.
Though French and Indonesian students in the first two modules showed equivalent grades, in the following step (Writing), French surpassed Indonesian by 0.4, and in the fourth unit (Speaking), Indonesian exceeded French by 0.1. Consequently, their overall scores were 6.5 for French and 6.3 for Indonesian students, respectively.
The Malay applicant’s scores, placed in the last segment of the table, were utterly dissimilar to those of other examinees. In particular, the Malay participant performed 6.2 in listening, 6.4 in reading, 6.0 in writing, and 6.6 in speaking. Ultimately, the average IELTS band score was 6.4, and the individual excelled in Indonesia and took third place in grade ranking.
