The given table illustrates the students from four language groups taking the IELTS general test and showing their average band scores in 2010.
It is clear that the differences in scores were not much greater, as German people were achievers of a higher band score, while French, Indonesian, and Malay people’s results were nearly similar. Therefore, the reading and listening scores of French and Indonesian students were similar.
On the one hand, German, with 6.7 overall, is considered the highest band scorer. However, its listening, writing, and speaking scores were also high, with 6.8, 6.6, and 6.9, while the reading score was a low 6.3 compared to Malay, which was 6.4. Moreover, French was second, with an overall band score of 6.5, although its listening, reading, and writing scores were 6.3, 6.1, and 6.5, but the speaking module score was 6.6, which was 0.1 band lower than Indonesian.
Furthermore, Malay was higher than Indonesian in the overall band score, which was 6.4 and 6.3. Despite this, Malay’s three sections except reading were 6.3, 6.1, and 6.7. Whilst Indonesian’s same three modules excluding the reading section were 6.3, 6.1, and 6.7 respectively. The reading section score of Malay was 0.1 greater than the other three language groups.
