The table compares the daily consumption of three staple foods – rice, wheat and maize – measured in calories per person in four different countries.
Overall, it is clear that each country relies on a different main food source. Rice is by far the dominant staple in Cambodia, while wheat is most heavily consumed in Egypt and Poland. By contrast, maize is the primary source of calories in Mexico and is not consumed at all in Poland.
In Cambodia, rice consumption is exceptionally high at 1,445 calories per person per day, whereas the intake of wheat and maize is minimal, standing at just 18 and 103 calories respectively. Egypt shows a different pattern, with wheat being the most consumed food at 1,085 calories, followed by maize at 587 calories. Rice plays a relatively minor role in the Egyptian diet, accounting for only 401 calories.
In Mexico, maize is the main staple, with consumption reaching 1,083 calories per person daily. Wheat intake is considerably lower at 275 calories, while rice consumption is negligible at only 57 calories. Finally, Poland relies heavily on wheat, with 856 calories per day, consumes very little rice at 19 calories, and records no maize consumption at all.
