The table compares carbon dioxide emissions in five countries in 2006, showing tonnes per person, total emissions, and percentage changes.
Overall, China and the USA were the largest emitters, while Italy and Spain produced significantly less. However, per capita emissions were highest in the USA and lowest in China.
China recorded the greatest total output at about 5,600 million tonnes, followed by the USA at roughly 5,900 million tonnes. Despite similar totals, Americans emitted far more per person (around 19.8 tonnes) compared to China’s 5.8 tonnes. Russia ranked third, producing approximately 1,700 million tonnes, with moderate per capita emissions of 12.1 tonnes.
In contrast, India’s total emissions were just over 1,200 million tonnes, and it had the lowest emissions per person at only 1.2 tonnes. Italy and Spain had smaller totals, at under 500 million tonnes each, though their per capita figures were relatively higher than China and India.
