The table compares the number of international tourists, in millions, who visited eight countries in 2009 and 2019.
Overall, most countries experienced a growth in tourist numbers over the ten-year period. France remained the most visited destination in both years, while the UK and Turkey saw slight declines.
In 2009, France welcomed 76.8 million visitors, which increased to 89.4 million in 2019. The USA also saw a large rise, from 66.3 to 79.3 million. China’s tourist numbers grew from 50.9 to 65.7 million. Spain attracted 52.2 million people in 2009 and 58.5 million ten years later.
Other countries experienced more moderate changes. Italy had a small increase from 43.2 to 46.7 million. Germany’s numbers also rose slightly, from 34.7 to 39.6 million.
On the other hand, the UK and Turkey recorded small declines. The UK went from 29.9 to 28.1 million, while Turkey dropped from 27.0 to 26.4 million visitors.
