The table compares the proportion of government expenditure devoted to education and training with the participation of young adults aged 18-24 in five countries in 2002.
Overall, Slovenia allocated by far the largest proportion of government expenditure for education and training, whereas Poland devoted the least. In terms of participation rate, however, Poland recorded the highest proportion despite spending the least for education and training, while Romania allocated the least share.
In terms of government expenditures, Slovenia made up by far the highest proportion, at 25%.
Hungary recorded the second-highest figure, at 13%. Romania and Czech Republic came next accounting for 10% and 9%, respectively. By contrast, Poland devoted only 5% representing the smallest share among countries surveyed.
Regarding participation rate, Poland recorded the highest proportion peaking at 44% of people aged 18-24 taking part in education or training. Slovenia followed closely and ranked as the second highest figure standing at 40% while Hungary recorded a moderate rate at 34%. Finally, participation was considerably lower in Czech Republic and Romania accounting for 27% and 23%, respectively.
