The table compares the government spending on education and training and proportion of 18-24-year-olds participating in these activities in five European countries in 2002.Overall, it’s clear that all five countries had higher participation rates than expenditure rates. Moreover, Slovenia had the higher figures for both spending and participation, while Poland had the lowest expenditure rate despite having a relatively high participation rate.
In terms of expenditure, Slovenia was by far the leading country, with 25% of government spending allocated to education and training. This figure was almost double that of Hungary, at 13%. Romania and the Czech Republic spent similar proportions, at 10% and 9% respectively, whereas Poland had the lowest expenditure rate, at only 5% in 2002 year.
Regarding participation rate, Poland recorded the highest figure at 44% respectively, closely followed by Slovenia at 40%. Hungry occupied the third position in participation rate, with 34%. In Czech republic, the participation rate was almost three times as high as the expenditure rate (5%), near followed by Romania stood at 24% respectively in 2002 year.
