The table provides the data on expenditure of various products in five countries in 2020.
Overall, Turkey standed out with the highest spending on food and leisure, whereas the reverse was true for Sweden in terms of food and clothing. Additionally, Turkey, Spain and Ireland comprised almost a typical amount of consumer spending.
As for the food and drinks, Turkey surpassed all countries with the highest expenditure of 32,14%. This trend was followed by Ireland, making up the second highest spending which was 28,91%. Whereas, Sweden accounted for 15,77% of spending with the rank of the lowest proportion compared to other countries. The moderate share of 16,36% and 18,80% were allocated by Italy and Spain respectively.
In terms of clothing and footwear, the money spent by Italian consumers accounted sharply at 9,00% which was significantly higher compared to the share of 5,40% in Sweden, the lowest contribution. The expenditure of consumers in this category was roughly similar in three countries, namely Ireland, Spain and Turkey, comprising the spending of just below 7,00%.
The highest contribution of consumer spending on leisure and education was allocated by Turkey which was responsible for 4,35% compared to Spain, contributing a little less than 2,00% which is the smallest expenditure. Out of total spending by Italians and Swedens the moderate proportion of 3,20% and just over 3,20% was allocated. Similarly, Ireland was responsible for about 2,20% of consumer expenditure.
