It is clear that computer, cell phone, dishwasher and digital camera items increased significantly, and the proportion of TV ownership rose slightly. However, users of video recorder decreased in 2002. Washing machines were the highest proportion in both years, but digital camera users were the least.
In 1998, households in New Zealand used washing machines (98%), while this percentage did not change in 2002. The second largest proportion was color TV consumers (95%), and rose by only 2% by 2002. The figure for computers was 50%, and the next four years, it reached 78%. Meanwhile, cell phone usage was 20%, but it rose fourfold in 2002. Video recorder usage dropped from 75% to 60%. In addition, the percentage of dishwashers was 18%, and it increased nearly three times. Digital cameras had the lowest figure (2%), and then it reached 39%.
