Overall, ownership of most electronic devices increased over the period, particularly newer technologies, while video recorders were the only item to experience a decline.
In both years, colour tv and washing machines were the dominant category in ownership. While colour tv showed a modest rise, from 95% to 97%, washing machines remained its leading position despite staying virtually unchanged at 98%.Meanwhile, the ownership of video recorders saw a noticeable drop, falling from 75% to 60%.
Ownership of cellphones showed the most significant growth from 20% in 1998 to 80% in 2002. Dishwasher and digital camera also recorded substantial increase, with dishwasher increased noticeably from 18% to 55% and digital camera rose sharply from 2% to 39%, sharing similar gains. Meanwhile, computer ownership increased more gradually, rising from 50% to 78% by the end of the period
