Overall, the percentage of females who chose to learn Humanities, Education, Science and Physics were higher than those who learnt Information Technology and Engineering. Students who didn’t have their first language English seemed interested in Science, Physics, Information Technology and Engineering more than Humanities and Education. About those who were born outside Australia, the proportions of choosing a major in university seemed more even.
Initially, the percentage of females who chose humanities to be their major was about 72%, which was the highest compared to 5 others majors on the table. Education was in second place with ảound 68% of women choosing to learn. Next was physics with 56% and Science with roughly 52%. In the table, Information Technology and Engineering were at the lowest ( 17% and 15%), which showed that females at that time didn’t truly care about engineering and I.T.
Pupils who didn’t speak English as their first language seemed interested in Information Technology with about 49% percent of them chose this to be their major. Around 45% of these students chose Science and 42% chose Engineering. Physics was chosen next with about 38% students. Education and Humanities were on the last with 16% and 12%.
Students who were bornt outside Australia had their interest in Physics and Information Technology with 56% of them chose each major. Engineering was second, which was chosen by 48% of this type of pupils. Science, Education and Humanities were chosen by about 31%, 23% and 20% pupils.
