The table compares the proportion of UK citizens in different age groups who visited Spain in the years of 1981 and 2015.
Overall, the share of visitors at the age of 0-15, 16-24 and above 55 experienced an increase throughout the period, while the reverse was true for the ages 25-35 and 35-45. However, despite a considerable fall in 2015, people aged 25-35 constituted the majority of the visitors in general.
Focusing on the increases first, the percentage of travellers under 15 started at 10% and had a modest increase to 12% in 2015. On the other hand, a dramatic rise was reported in the proportion of visitors aged 16-24, from 4% to 15%. Similarly, a pronounced increase was also observed in the share of people travelling to Spain whose age is above 55. The percentage of travellers in this age group went up by 9% from 16% to 25% during the given time period.
By contrast, a noticeable decline was shown in the proportion of visitors who were in the age range between 25 and 45 years. Initially, young adults aged 25-35 accounted for half of all people visiting Spain in 1981, though this number dropped significantly to 32% by 2015. As for the visitors between 35 and 45 years old, a similar trend was observed with a fall of 10% from 22% in 1981 to 12% in 2015.
