The table illustrates the amount of waste produced in million tonnes in six different countries in 1988, 1992 and 2000.
Overall, all the figures witnessed an increase by the end of the analyzed period, with the exception of Ireland. Notably, the United States had by far the largest share throughout the period.
As for the US, the figure was a dominant, accounting for 107 million tonnes in 1988 and experiencing roughly a two-fold growth to 209 million tonnes by 2000. Canada, in the meantime, ranked second, constituting 20 million tonnes and 29 million tonnes in 1988 and in 2000, respectively. Turning to Japan, the category represented 15 million tonnes in 1988 and saw moderate rise to 25 million tonnes by 2000.
In terms of Poland and Ireland, both categories stood at 10 million tonnes in 1988, with the former almost doubling to 18 million tonnes and the latter not exceeding 9.9 million tonnes by 2000. Finally, the figure for Scotland showcased 3 million tonnes in 1988 and 5 million tonnes in 2000, which was nearly double the figure for 1988.
