The table illustrates 5 nations and how many of their universities in 3 fields were in the top world 200 list in 2011.
Overall, it is clear that the USA was far ahead of other nations in terms of the number of top universities, followed by the UK, with New Zealand ranking last among these countries. In addition, the figures for Canada and Australia were somewhat similar.
Starting first with biology, the USA and the UK were leading in this field just like in others, with 28 in the UK and more than double this figure in the US (69), the highest number on the table. Interestingly, Canada and Australia had identical figures of 9, while New Zealand was the last, having only 6 top biology universities.
Regarding the medical universities, the USA and the UK were leading in this area once again, having 54 and 30 of their educational institutions in this field to be acknowledged in the top 200 list, with these figures in Australia and Canada standing at 12 and 13, respectively. Ranked last, New Zealand was home to 6 times less number of best performing universities than the 4th ranked Australia ( 2 versus 12).
The category of psychology was no different, with the USA and the UK ahead. There were 58 of these universities in the former and exactly half this number in the latter(29). As for the remaining nations, 17 of top psychology universities were in Australia, 14 in Canada, and a mere 4 in New Zealand.
