The table gives information about how five distinct renewable resources generate energy in the UK, as well as the number of employees working in each sector in 2009.
Overall, there is an evidence that hydropower was the leading resource to produce energy, while the share of solar energy was the lowest. However, hydropower contributed the least number of employees, whereas the reverse was true for solar resource.
As for the energy production, the percentage of hydropower was the biggest , accounting for 13,7%, followed by wind energy with the contribution of 10,2% ; however, only 3,6% of energy generated from solar resource. Meanwhile, the proportion of tidal power was relatively similar to that of geothermal, ranging from 6,8% to 6,9%.
Regarding employment, one notable feature was that the number of employees working in solar energy was the largest, contributing 12,4500 individuals, exceeding the rest of resources. The second biggest number of employees worked in geothermal area with 4,590 people. The employment’s distributions in hydropower, tidal and wind power were lowest, with the contribution of over 1000, 2000, and 1,198 workers, respectively.
