The table compares the proportion of energy generated from renewable resources in the UK and how many people were employed in each sector in 2009.
Overall, hydropower emerged as the most favored energy source, while solar energy accounted for the smallest share. However, despite its popularity, hydropower had the fewest employees, in contrast to solar energy, which employed the highest number of workers.
On one hand, hydropower accounted for 13.7% of energy production, closely followed by wind power, which contributed just over 10%. Additionally, tidal power and geothermal energy produced similar amounts, each at around 7%. In contrast, solar power generated the least energy, contributing less than 4%.
On the other hand, solar power employed the largest workforce, with approximately 12,500 individuals. In geothermal energy, nearly 4,600 people were employed, which was more than double the number of workers in tidal power, which had over 2,000 employees. Meanwhile, the workforce in hydropower and wind power was between 1,000 and just below 1,200.
