The table compares the proportion of energy generated from the five different renewable resources in the UK and the number of workers in the year 2009.
Overall, it is obvious that hydropower was the biggest producer, while solar energy produced the lowest percentage of energy. Another noteworthy observation is that a contrasting scenario was observed in the numbers of employees in these two sectors in 2009.
On the one hand, 13.7% of energy was produced from hydropower, followed by the figure for wind power, at over 10%. Furthermore, the percentages of energy produced from tidal power and geothermal were nearly the same at approximately 7%. By contrast, solar power generated the least energy, at below 4%.
On the other hand, solar power had the highest number of employees, at roughly 12,500 people. There were nearly 4,600 people working in geothermal, over twice as high as the figure for tidal power, at more than 2,000. However, the numbers of workers in hydropower and wind power ranged from 1,000 to below 1,200.
