The presented table compares the percentage of students who attended four secondary school types in 2000, 2005 and 2009.
All in all, Voluntary Controlled became the most attended schools in 2000 and 2005, but in 2009, most of students preferred to attend Community Schools.
In these three years, all types of schools except Community Schools showed a gradual decline ranging from 1% – 18% at maximum. The percentage of Voluntary Controlled Schools experienced the highest decline, from 52% in 2000 to 20% in 2009. Grammar Schools fell by half, from 24% in 2000 to 12% in 2009. Whereas Specialist Schools remained the same number of students, at around 12% to 10%.
Community Schools were the least popular in 2000 but then showed substantial growth in 2005 and 2009. They had only 12% of students in 2000, then grew by a fifth in 2005, and in 2009, a significant proportion of students chose Community Schools as a place to study.
