The tables present data about the production and consumption of potatoes in five different parts globally in the year 2006.
Overall, it is evident that Europe consumed the most potatoes, followed by North America, although, the least potatoes were consumed in Africa. However, the most potatoes were produced in Asia, whereas South and Central America produced the least amount of potatoes.
Looking to the consumption table, people in Europe ate 96.1 kg potatoes per person, followed by North America with 57.9 kg per person. Asia and South and Central America were close to each other with 25.8 kg and 23.6 kg per person respectively. In contrast, inhabitants of Africa only ate 14.1 kg potatoes per person.
Turning to the production table, although Europe ate the most potatoes, Asia produced most of them: 131.2 million tonnes. Nevertheless, Europe followed closely with 126.3 million tonnes of potatoes. In contrast, North America, Africa, and South and Central America produced significantly less potatoes: 24.7, 16.4, and 15.6 million tonnes respectively.
