Overall, most of the countries in the European Union witnessed a growth trend, except for Slovakia and Austria. Additionally, the fuel consumption for commuting in Slovakia was predominant in both years, while the figure for Greece was always the lowest.
The average proportion for the European Union in 2009 was approximately 4.2%, where Slovakia had the highest use of renewable energy fuel, at 9.3%. In contrast, the figure for Greece was the lowest, only about 1.1%. The figures for Austria, France, Poland, and Spain were, respectively, lower, at around 6.5%, 6%, 5%, and 3.5% for each.
By 2010, the European Union increased from 4.1% to nearly 5%, presenting a slight growth in several countries. The fuel usage for transportation in Greece rose to 2%, and the percentage for Spain was higher, at approximately 4.8%. France still stood at 6%, equaling the figure for Poland in 2010. Although there was a slight decline in Slovakia ( from 9.3% to 7.9%), it was still the dominant country, followed by Austria with nearly 5%.
