Overall, internet usage increased significantly in all three countries over the decade. Canada experienced the most dramatic growth, transforming from the country with the second highest figures to the clear leader by the end of the period. In contrast, Mexico consistently recorded the lowest percentages thoughout the given years.

In 1999, the USA led with one-fifth (20%) of its population using internet, followed by Canada at 10% and Mexico with 5%. Over the next four years, usage surged rapidly across all countries. By 2003, Canada internet users had jumped from 10% to 60%, overtaking the USA, where the figure stood at 55%. While, Mexico percentage of internet raised only to 20%.

During the final years of the period, growth continued but at a slightly more moderate pace. By 2009, the propotion of internet users in Canada reached a peak of 90%. The USA also saw steady upward progress, and finishing at 75%. Meanwhile, Mexico’s growth flattened toward the end, peaking at 35% in 2007, with no clear data recorded in 2009, leaving it well behind its northern neighbors.
