Dear Emily,
I hope you’ve been doing well! I was recently offered a job with TELUS in the Toronto downtown location, and I’m writing to gain a better idea on what it’s like living there, since you’ve been there for a couple years now.
As you know, I’ve lived all my life here in Vancouver, and my family and friends are settled here. However, this position would be a really good opportunity for me, career wise, to transition into a leadership focused role. So, I’m a little conflicted as to if I should take up this offer.
What I’m mainly worried about is the culture difference between the east and west coasts of Canada. From what I know, the east coast has quite a different culture compared to the west. I’m an avid adventurer and hiker, by birth, and I really value the presence of nature here in Vancouver. I don’t want to compromise on my hobbies for the sake of my career. Additionally, I don’t do very well with extremely cold weather conditions, since Vancouver usually doesn’t dip to the negative temperature degrees.
As you’re someone who has lived and experienced both cities, what do you think would be the biggest culture shock if I decided to move there. Additionally, do you have any idea if there are any local hiking groups that I can join to meet new people? I’d also appreciate any hiking recommendations that you may have! I’m looking forward to catching up soon.
Warm regards,
Nilasha
