The pie charts illustrate the age distribution of visitors from the UK to Spain in the years 1983 and 2003. Overall, although older citizens made up the majority in both years, there was a noticeable increase in the proportion of younger age groups over the period.
In 1983, 66% of visitors were aged 35 and over, with those over 55 alone accounting for 50%. The 25–34 age group comprised 20%, while younger visitors aged 15–24 and under 15 made up 10% and 4%, respectively.
By 2003, the proportion of children under 15 had more than tripled to 15%. Meanwhile, the visitors aged 15–24 and 25–34 both accounted for slightly 12%. Despite this shift, older age groups remained dominant, with 35% of visitors aged over 55 and 26% in the 35–54 age group.
